As many of you are aware, Steve Wescott and his project Needle 2 Square was able to raise money for purchasing land for the Uzima Children’s Home by walking from Seattle to New York. We rejoice with him in that he completed the work he set out to do, and that your contributions helped us reach our goals. Unfortunately, the original land purchase was held up due to legal concerns out of our control. In order to not waste time, we did purchase 2.9 acres in Busia, a rural outer lying region from Nairobi, for the development of the future children’s home. We thank God that He kept us from our original plans as His plans turned out to be better in the end. We are now free of the prior legal concern and are able to use the money towards a full project in Busia. While this wasn’t our original plan, God blessed us with a greater land size that is both more affordable and fertile for future agricultural projects. We are rejoicing in this new ability to move forward and know that God has kept His hand on this entire process.
Now that the land has been acquired and, with money that we’ve been able to save, we are able to take leaps and bounds forward in the new building project. Currently, we’ve completed fencing and a guardhouse: two important beginning stages in order to protect the land. With the rest of the funds we’ve saved, we plan to drill for a well, develop some initial sanitary facilities, and develop some electrical utilities. The top priority and expense in this list is the well drilling as it requires specialized equipment and is labor intensive. The well is especially important as it will provide water for the Children’s Home and future income generating projects.
Finally, we celebrate the provisions of God through you. We are excited to be moving forward into the future of this project. We will soon be giving updates on future developments including dormitories and ways in which you can contribute to this ongoing plan.
