God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:28-31
For this month’s newsletter we decided to do something different. Two members of our outreach team were recently invited to share at a drug rehabilitation conference in Uganda. Peter, our Outreach Manager, wrote a report and we were so encouraged by it we decided to share it with you.
We got an opportunity to represent Uzima Outreach at an annual conference in Uganda with various professions to exchange different ideas, approaches and techniques on the topic of addiction. It was a 3 day program at a university in Entebbe with people from different parts of the world all there to share and learn on the issue at hand. So many people presented that our time to share was pushed from the first to the last day - of which God had the reason.
As it came to the last day and it was our turn, we made the conference look completely different, because since it started no one had talked about God other than opening prayers. We shared about our transformation which was not based on worldly approaches but based upon God only; we acknowledged everything that was a success to us did not come from any of our might, or intelligence or anything, but only from building a relationship with God. We talked about seeking forgiveness, acknowledging the Lord in all our doings, and trusting in his word. We shared this transformation was not only happening in our lives, but also in the many people God has called us to. It was a short presentation but it caught everyone's attention.
The psychologist and other health professionals came and greeted us after the presentation and thanked us for acknowledging God. They admitted that they do their part and leave the rest to God. At first we even felt inferior because people had big titles but after sharing we felt truly that God is above all approaches. It was a privilege and a honor to have an opportunity to share what God has done in our lives. –Peter
Please pray the Lord continues to use the outreach team in furthering the gospel and bringing more to freedom from addiction.
Pray that God continues to work on the hearts of those who were at the conference.
Continue to lift up the children and staff in your prayers.
Pray that God’s will be done in Uzima Outreach.
