God's Faithfulness - April, 2019

But from everlasting to everlasting, the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children—with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. Psalm 103:17-18

Anastasia was the first girl to enter the Uzima Children’s Home eight years ago. Her mother was deeply lost in substance abuse, abandoning Anastasia and leaving her to fend for herself in the streets of Kawangware slum. This was near the genesis of Uzima, but Anastasia had heard there was a place nearby that was helping children, so she actually came to us seeking help.

Today, Anastasia is approaching her sixteenth birthday. She has grown into a kind, polite and talented young lady. She has a wonderful singing voice and Joseph, the assistant home manager, has done a delightful job teaching her the keyboard. It’s also been encouraging to see her advancing in her studies, as she has shown great improvements in her grades from last year. For all of this, she gives God the glory, and it has been a blessing for us to watch her grow in her faith over the years.

Outreach to the people of Kawangware and Ndonyo still continues. The ladies in Ndonyo are still holding fast to the reduction program that we put them on. W has been off heroin for ten weeks now and continues to grow in her faith as she made the decision to rededicate her life to Christ. M has been off heroin for three weeks and we thank God that her family has been supportive through her journey. L is still smoking half a shot of heroin every once in a while; we are praying that soon she will make the choice to stop completely.

We recently moved to a new office in Kawangware that we use for counseling sessions with our clients. We try to provide a safe space for them where we can share the word of God and talk about the struggles they face daily. We also provide a meal for each person that comes as most of them walk long distances to attend.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please pray for a blessed future for Anastasia

  • Pray for Anastasia’s mother to find Christ and sobriety, as we still come into contact with her

  • Pray for the women on our reduction program and their children.

  • Please pray for the clients’ safety, permanent shelter and the courage to leave abusive partners

  • Pray for the salvation of our clients as that is the primary goal of Uzima

  • For renewed strength and dedication for our staff at the Uzima Home and the Outreach team
