Children's Home Update - We Had a Visitor!
"For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Edwin graduated from Uzima Children’s Home last year. He’s living in Nairobi now but recently returned to Busia to visit the home. While Edwin grew up in Uzima, his talent and passion for the arts was discovered. He was incredibly skilled at writing skits, directing the other children and performing himself.
Not long after finishing his time at Uzima, he was spotted by a talent group. He now works for them on a part-time basis as an MC and actor, performing at different schools where they encourage the students to make good choices.
It was wonderful for all of us to spend time together during his visit at the home. Before leaving he met with all the high school boys to tell his testimony and talk about the struggles they’ll face while in high school and how the choices they make now well affect their future. As the staff, we are pleased to see his progress and see how God has been faithful in his life.
CURRENT FINANCIAL NEEDS:
There is an urgent case that has come up recently. In our area there is another home that is struggling to meet the needs of their many children. They have been advised with the support of the Children’s Officer of Busia that they reduce the number of children in their care. There are 4 children we’ve been asked to take under our care.
Before we can enroll these young ones into our home we must first acquire additional beds, mattresses, mosquito nets, etc. This will an expense of approximately $2,000.
We received notices from the schools to complete payment of school fees for this year or the children will be removed from class. The balance for primary school is $1,657; for secondary school the balance is $1,575.
Now that we are officially in our new home, we are required to undergo the process to renew our license as a CCI (Charitable Children’s Institution); part of which will be an inspection of the new facility. Before we can do this we must first complete the following:
Refill our fire extinguishers, a fire assembly place sign and fire blankets at a cost of $500
The kitchen needs electricity at a cost of $450, smoke outlet and plastering for $300
The remaining needs in the kitchen: more cutlery, buckets and portable cooking stoves at a cost of $550
Inside the dormitory we need storage cabinets and lockers for $3583
Curtains fittings and frames for the whole house at $620
Windows above all the inside door frames for $300
Additional beds, mattresses, nets, etc. $2000
School Fee Shortage:

Secondary school balance is $1,575
